Chewing, sucking, and lying down can cause painful pressure changes in the middle ear. Older kids can complain about ear pain, but a younger child might just tug at the ear or be fussy and cry more than usual. WebA head cold can also lead to ear pain, due to the interconnectivity of the ear, nose, and throat. Children are far more susceptible to earaches than adults, and a child suffering from ear pain will likely be very awake and very loud for an entire night. In less serious cases, placing a warm compress on the ear is a good start to relieving the pain.
