Then theres degree marks on the block.. 10-0-10.. Set the pump to 0 & see how it runs.. a new /fresh engine IS GONNA SMOKE until u put a load on it for hours & seat the rings.. Mine and i would guess from the other american sold 3000s I have seen have the Simms In line injection pump. But from your post it is a CAV distributor injection pump. Is it possible the later 3000s switched to CAV or possibly just UK sold units?

Inside, they probably used the same gear as the rotary pump so undo 3 bolts from the drive gear to the pump shaft. The gear is captive in the timing cover and so can not skip a tooth, fall out or otherwise lose time.
